    In Brief:

    * Our annual look at the institutions and features that elicit feelings of pride among Canadians has gone through some remarkable changes over the years. In 2024, the numbers accurately depict a country that is becoming increasingly upset with the status quo.
    * We show a decline for two aspects of our country that have been repeatedly linked to previous and current Liberal Party governments: multiculturalism (65%, down nine points) and bilingualism (58%, down six points).
    * We also see a drop in feelings of pride related to Indigenous culture (63%, down three points) and the state of democracy in Canada (55%, down six points).
    * Only 50% of Canadians aged 35-54 are proud of the state of democracy in the country, compared to 57% for those aged 55 and over and 58% for those aged 18-34.
    * Canadians are also less proud today about the health-care system (48 per cent, down four points) and the justice system (also 48 per cent, down two points).
    * The numbers outline a severe institutional crisis for the current federal government, one that will not be easily eradicated with just slogans and platitudes. Confidence in Parliament slipped drastically, along with perceptions on multiculturalism, bilingualism and the state of democracy in Canada. When the finances of Canadians are negatively impacted, it is hard to feel good about everything else.

Nothing shocking here…no pride in an economy that props up older homeowners on the backs of the younger generations that are facing a housing dystopia. Also the joy of multiculturalism get tossed out when you have to fight with hundreds of imported students for even the barest scraps of employment.

  3. It’s hard to feel good about the economy when the unemployment rate keeps increasing every month. The unemployment rate is now 6.4%. In many major Canadian cities, it’s significantly higher. Toronto’s unemployment rate is **7.8%.** In Calgary it’s **8.5%.** In other cities it’s in the **6 to 7%** range. In the Maritimes, it’s above **9%.**

At this point the government can no longer claim ignorance on immigration hurting housing, healthcare, and jobs. They know they are screwing us, they’re doing it to make corporations happy. And people have figured out they are being used.

  5. an economy that benefits the rich. who would have thought. people dont want to be indentured servants.

I’ve never been more concerned about the future of this country. Neither the LPC, CPC, or NDP seem to care about the plight of everyday Canadians, nor do any of them have a positive vision for the future which will improve the lives of people who aren’t the 1% or unskilled immigrants and international students.

I’m honestly horrified for the future.

  8. Since the last federal election in Q3 2021, Canada has added 1.5 Million temporary residents. About a 3.9% increase from our Q3 2021 population.

Is there anyone reading this who feels they are better off today than they were 3 years ago?

  9. This is not a failure of messaging. This is a failure of competence, enabled by failure of character.

Government’s character is a direct reflection of the character of its citizens. Competent or not, we always get the government we deserve. If we want better, we all must be better.

Don’t like being exploited? Grow a pair and end the exploitation.

Average folk: “Oooh, but there’s nothing we can do! We’re powerless!”

    Rich folk: “…”
