Major utility Tokyo Gas held a seminar for male executives on better understanding women’s health issues.
It included demonstrating an electronic device that attaches to the abdomen and simulates menstrual cramps.
Executives and human resource officials attended the seminar on Thursday.
Men testing the device expressed surprise and grimaced when it sent electrical impulses into their midsections.
Saito Akihiro, one of the participants, said, “I want to create a work environment in which men and women can better understand and communicate about health issues.”
The company says a survey showed more than 70 percent of female employees had faced work difficulties related to health problems unique to women.
