Intense heat expected across Japan on Thursday Intense heat is expected to continue across Japan on Thursday, with 38 degrees Celsius forecast for an area in the Tokai region. People are advised to take precautions against heatstroke.

The Meteorological Agency says a stronger high-pressure system over the Pacific will likely push up temperatures.

The mercury is expected to reach 38 degrees in Shizuoka City, central Japan. High temperatures are also forecast for many other areas, including 34 degrees in central Tokyo and Yokohama City.

Authorities have issued heatstroke alerts for 15 prefectures.

People should take extra care to prevent heatstroke by using air conditioners properly, drinking water frequently, avoiding working and exercising outdoors for long periods and resting appropriately.
