Soviet power 2024, or power holders in the Soviets

This morning’s Eesti Päevalehte editorial reproached one of Tallinn’s coalition partners that for some reason the boards of companies belonging to the city are still filled with representatives who cannot be accused of professional competence. Also, it’s been a while since the last data story, so time to release something. In other words, what is the situation with these councils and their members – who, where and how many?

Membership of political parties is also readily available from the Business Register. According to this, 1,796 council member positions are filled, 1,205 are filled with people who are not currently in any political party. The rest is written somewhere, at least according to the register. 33% of all public sector councils are members of political parties. It is lower under the central government (19%), higher under local governments (41%).

The following table shows the breakdown by political parties and parts of the public sector.

The most diligent worker bees are In the Reform Party, where 214 council seats are filled by 183 party soldiers (1.17 seats per person). In absolute numbers, they follow Fatherland and Center party, who have almost as many seats in the Soviet Union as two. Forward from there Social Democratic Party, who is in second place in terms of excellence (1.15 places per person). The following political parties do not have seats in the Council. Interestingly, the one in liquidation is also represented People’s Unity Party, whose member Pavo Raudsepp advises in the company Tamsalu Kalor AS. Also lined up TOGETHERwhose ranks include Vladimir Derbuk on the board of Alutaguse Haldus Private Association.

It has been left out Estonian Freedom Party – Põllumeeeste Kogu, UNITED LEFT PARTY OF ESTONIA and Party Estonian Greens.

But let’s also look at the best ones. At most, you can make your invaluable contribution in five companies at the same time. This heavy burden is borne by two members of the reform party.

Three members of the reform party and one member of the center party have taken on a slightly lighter, but still full of responsibility, burden (4 councils).

16 brave political party members are doing their hard work in three councils. The largest number of them belong to Isamaa ranks (6), followed by the Social Democrats with five, Reform with three and the Center with two representatives.

The two councils enrich 70 party soldiers with their invaluable experience. The Reform Party 31 is in first place there multitaskeriga, followed by the Center Party with 14. Next, Isamaa and SDE are equal on 11. You can also mark off the Right with two and EKRE with one.
