It’s intertwined with our culture and national identity. The beauty of our nature makes outdoor sports a joy. We have a nice amount of free time and a lot of people decide to use the time to do sports. The youth is extremely encouraged to do sports from a very young age. Elementary and high schools give out certain privileges to students, who do sports on a semi-to-full-professional level (allowed absence, more time to prepare for oral exams etc). Why is the performance of our athletes so great tho? No clue. I guess we truly are built different.
