Armenia will not hold a referendum for joining the EU. Nikol Pashinyan explained why || Armenia will not hold a referendum for joining the EU. Nikol Pashinyan explained why
> “I have announced on the EU platform [referring to the Europarliament speech] that Armenia is ready to be as close to the EU as the EU deems it possible. If I thought that the people of Armenia did not support this idea, I would not have made such a statement.”
> RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this in his speech during the “Armenian Forum for Democracy”, continuing. “What is the problem now, to hold a referendum to find out the opinion of the people?” I’m sorry, as an official who is authorized to represent the people of Armenia, I know the opinion of the people of Armenia.”
> He elaborated that if a referendum is held, there must first be a campaign, during which citizens will ask questions: how, when, with what steps, does the EU want it or not?
> “People will ask: is the EU ready to accept us?” I cannot give an answer to that question, because processes and elections are taking place inside the EU, the results of which at least raise questions. We have announced the political will at the highest level,” said the Prime Minister.

Hopefully this puts to bed – for a time – these calls for a referendum.

Kinda sad but he is right, it’s not the right time as for now to hold a referendum. Փաշինյանը այստեղ արդեն կամ-կամ քաղաքականություն ա վարում: Բայց դե իրոք ընտրություններով լի տարի ա ու շատ բան կախված կլինի դրանց արդյունքներից:

He doesn’t get to decide what the people want. I want Armenia to be part of the EU, but this is the people’s decision, not his. People have the right to express, vote, and ask. We’re not toddlers for him to decide for us.
