South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said early on Monday morning that North Korea fired a ballistic missile toward the east.
The South Korean and US militaries are trying to determine how far it flew and what kind of missile it was.
North Korea also launched a ballistic missile toward the Sea of Japan last Wednesday. It said it successfully tested its ability to fire multiple-warhead missiles. But South Korea’s military believes the launch actually failed.
On Sunday, Pyongyang denounced the “Freedom Edge” joint military exercise that Japan, the United States and South Korea carried out. It described the exercise as “provocative military muscle-flexing.” It also said that such an action can lead to “fatal consequences.”
