This isn’t my situation but I regularly see posts on r/askswitzerland from Swiss people who were either born abroad to Swiss parents, or they moved abroad a long time ago, and want to come back to Switzerland. For example actually there is another post on the sub about a Swiss born in Tanzania to Swiss parents
My question is: I know a Swiss living in Switzerland will get help from the state if he is at risk of getting homeless/not being able to live due to financial issues. Would this also apply to Swiss living abroad that come back to Switzerland ? Or is this not possible because they would need to already be resident in Switzerland, and obviously if they own nothing, they could not even afford to move to Switzerland because they could not pay rent ? Do you see what I mean ? How would this turn out ? Genuine question
Someone found this webpage [https://www.eda.admin.ch/countries/usa/en/home/services/social-security.html](https://www.eda.admin.ch/countries/usa/en/home/services/social-security.html) and [https://www.eda.admin.ch/eda/en/fdfa/fdfa/organisation-fdfa/directorates-divisions/cd/social-security-swiss-citizens-abroad.html](https://www.eda.admin.ch/eda/en/fdfa/fdfa/organisation-fdfa/directorates-divisions/cd/social-security-swiss-citizens-abroad.html) but this sounds almost too good to be true. Like for many developing countries, you could live well with like 3000 CHF which would be poverty in Switzerland, so it could be possible to live abroad from social service
