I managed to hit a curb driving in Zürich city and noticed that it caused some damage to the tire. I’m curious if it’s safe/legal to drive with this or do I need to replace it?

Hard to say, cause it’s a picture, but your middle finger looks good enough to drive a car. If you experience pain, turn to a doctor just to be sure.

Tire is fine, just sad for the scratched mercedes rim

Go to your usual tyre shop and ask them?

Tire side walls take a lot of lateral load stress under cornering. I would replace that tire, as the last thing you want is that tire to fail when under load in a corner.

Makes me wonder if you went to the same driving school as my wife.

Yes, but you probably should go change them as quickly as possible.

r/AskMechanics I think. Legality is not the main issue and there are (hopefully) more car experts there.
I replaced mine after something similar, but it was already due for the tyre so I didn’t hesitate much.

You really gave it a good bashing eh! For me it looks fine as doesn’t seem to be that deep and usually there is a lip on a tyre for this precise reason. Personally it looks fine and I would carry on driving. But don’t take my word for it. Go to garage, but know they are kind of incentivised to sell you something….

Sieht aus, wie es noch gehen würde, solange das Drahtgeflecht innen nicht beschädigt ist, sollte es noch gehen… also zur nächsten Werkstatt solltest du ohne Probleme kommen…

Don’t save the money. Replace all tyres. Or perhaps try to get a used tyre that has about the same wear and quality.
You don’t want to play with your life AND in case of an accident, it’s going to get much more expensive.

Easy. If you lift up that little piece and shine a flashlight into it you will find the yes or no.
If you see the Steel Cords –> Need new Tire
If you see just the Rubber –> Dont need new Tire
and for my credentials. I did a 4 year car mechanic apprenticeship so i do know some things😂
