The leaders of Russia and North Korea have signed a comprehensive partnership treaty, cementing security and military ties.
A summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was held in Pyongyang on Wednesday.
In their opening remarks, Kim stressed his support for Russia’s military operation in Ukraine, while Putin vowed to jointly oppose the West.
Kim said, “The global situation is complex and rapidly changing. We will further strengthen strategic communication with Russia.”
Putin said, “We are fighting against hegemonic and imperialistic policies that have been imposed by the US and its allies for decades.”
Russian state media said the pair spoke for about two and a half hours, exceeding the scheduled time.
The signed treaty reportedly touches on economic and security ties. Putin said it will serve as the foundation of a long-term relationship between the countries.
