JAL president apologizes to shareholders for recent incidents Japan Airlines President and CEO Tottori Mitsuko apologized to shareholders on Tuesday for a series of recent incidents, promising to improve the carrier’s safety standards.

Tottori said, “We once again apologize for causing a great deal of concern. We will work together to rebuild the safety system and ensure safety by implementing measures to prevent recurrences.”

The wingtips of two adjacent JAL airplanes touched in a parking area at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport last month.

Also in May, one of the carrier’s airliners went well past a stop line leading to a runway at Fukuoka Airport in southwestern Japan.

These and other incidents prompted the transport ministry to issue a strong reprimand against JAL.

One stockholder on Tuesday urged the airline to find out the cause of each incident.

All resolutions, including the election of Tottori and other board members, were approved at the general shareholders meeting.
