Japan lawmakers adopt resolution calling for improving Gaza situation Japan’s Upper House of the Diet has approved a resolution that calls for improving the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and asks the government to continue its diplomatic efforts to deescalate the Israel-Hamas conflict as soon as possible.

The resolution was approved by a majority vote on Friday. This move follows a similar resolution adopted by the Lower House on the previous day.

The document states that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is unbearable, and conditions are tragic.

It calls for an immediate ceasefire and opposes full-scale military operations in Rafah, southern Gaza.

Upper House lawmakers are calling on the government to work closely with relevant countries to realize a ceasefire and hostage release.

Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko said Japan will continue working on the ceasefire and use this week’s Group of Seven summit to tackle the issue.
