Japan, Ukraine confirm cooperation ahead of international recovery conference About 100 government and business representatives from Japan and Ukraine attended a meeting in Berlin on Monday, at which they confirmed plans to work together to rebuild Ukraine.

The gathering came ahead of the Ukraine Recovery Conference, which will be held in the German capital on Tuesday and Wednesday with representatives from more than 60 countries.

Japan’s Prime Minister Kishida Fumio said in a video message that Japan’s public and private sectors will unite in continued support for Ukraine.

Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko expressed gratitude to Japan, saying, “our resilience is built on your support.”

More than 20 new agreements between businesses and organizations from the two countries on improving agricultural production, introducing renewable energy and constructing homes were unveiled.

Among presentations by Ukrainian businesses, a representative of a state-run oil refinery spoke about the need for technical cooperation to strengthen production.

Japan’s State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Iwata Kazuchika said he intends to make all-out efforts to cover Ukraine’s primary to tertiary industries and elevate them.

Japan hosted a reconstruction conference for Ukraine in Tokyo in February, when more than 50 memorandums of cooperation were signed.
