Japanese company officials are visiting Ukraine to explore business opportunities. They’ve met with firms to discuss tie-ups that can benefit both sides.
Representatives from 10 Japanese firms and about 20 Ukrainian companies gathered in the capital Kyiv on Thursday.
The Japanese officials promoted their technology and track record overseas. The Ukrainian side asked about the benefits of the firms expanding into the country.
An IT company from Japan, Sagri, shared how it can optimize fertilizer use by combining satellite imagery with AI.
The CEO, Tsuboi Shunsuke, said that it was good to be able to speak directly with the people in Ukraine. He added that he would like to visit some farmlands next time.
Ukrainian company official, Dmytro Shevtsov, said: “We’re thankful that firms from Japan are working with us and helping extend our business and theirs together. They’re helping Ukraine stand and are open to rebuilding the country.”
Officials from both nations met in Tokyo in February to explore cooperating on Ukraine’s reconstruction.
Tokyo has eased travel restrictions to Ukraine for firms and organizations involved in the rebuilding. It has also rolled out measures to promote the expansion of Japanese companies into the country.
Kataoka Susumu, the president of the Japan External Trade Organization, organized the event. He said he hopes to help Japanese firms discover business challenges in Ukraine, as well as the expectations of Ukrainian companies, so that the effort will develop into support for reconstruction.
