I’m going Cyprus in two weeks and don’t get me wrong I ofc knew it would be hot, but 45 degrees in June is so scary! How do the locals cope during summer in Cyprus?!?!?

Kind regards,
A scared British girl

air conditioning , like the rest of the world lol , or cold drinks and showers

  2. I have landed in qatar in the middle of the night and the temp was higher than in the middle of the day in Cyprus so i ain’t complaining again
Also Mid 40s in june is not the normal. We are in the middle of a heatwave. Usually is in the low mid 30s on the coast and mid high 30s inland.
As for how we cope we got used to it. Also air condition, lots of time on the beach, light meals during day, lots of water and beer or coctails

There are 2 ways to cope with the heat.

    1. Stay inside with AC. Go to a cafe and drink a frape, Fredo, or any cold drink.
    2. Go to the beach or pool. Don’t forget to put on sunscreen with SPF 50+ and to drink a lot of water and other fluids.

I wouldn’t recommend you being outside in the sun between 1200 and 1600 though. It’s like hell.

Currently sweating in my kitchen trying to have dinner. No need for sauna I guess. But in my room/office AC 24/7. Also I don’t go out for the 3 summer months unless I have to. Send help 😅

    Dear Scared British Girl.

As a pale skinned Scottish boy living here, let me give you some tips.

    1) avoid going out around 12-3pm if you can help it. That’s the WORST time to be outside while the sun tries to char grill you
    2) If you are going out for an hour or more, slap on spf 50, dont gamble, our weak British skin will fry VERY quickly. If you’ve been out for a while, but be afraid to hop on the buses to quicken the journey back to your hotel. They are cheap and air conditioned.
    3) Dont fall for the trap of “I’ll just stay in the pool, the pool is cooler than outside” the pool may feel cooler, but it refracts the UV, and you actually burn faster.
    4) Keep fluids up. Dehydration and sun stroke are genuine worries
    5) Dont be afraid to sleep at night with every window and balcony/patio door open in your room, hell, even sleep on the balcony. 45+ in the day may look scary, but 35-40 at night is the real killer 😅
    6) Air conditioning is your friend here, and luckily, you dont have to worry about blasting it constantly cause you dont have the fat electric bill to worry about for having it on the whole time you’re here

As for how the locals handle it, a mixture of the points I gave you. Plus it’s just adaptation, back home, 20⁰c in the summer was sweltering for the bit of Scotland I’m from, and after 5 years here, 40+ is a little uncomfortable but somewhat manageable. I mean, I dont even follow most of the points I gave you anymore 😂

Anyway, hope it helps, and hope you have a nice time here 😁

    Kind regards, A no-longer pasty-skinned Scottish Boy

I’ve just come back from there, it was 45degrees in some area’s. One area reached 49. One of the locals had Jeans on walking around. I couldn’t believe it ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face)

  7. We wear suits like the fremen in Dune and basically recycle our sweat and piss to stay hydrated

I don’t rly use ac, except if i go to sleep so i am comfy. Other than that u get used to it n stay in the shade

although i hate it, i thank god that i live in a country where heatwaves are normal instead of other countries experiencing heatwaves for the first time 😅

  10. * Dont go out from 11am-4pm.

    * sleep naked with the AC at 28c (so you dont pay extortion to AHK)

    * stay hydrated(includes both fluids and minerals) and moisturized (dry lips a hell)

    * sunblock every 30 min if you in contact of the sh

If you staying in a hotel just sleep at your preferred temp and clothed in case of a emergency.

these are just common Nicosian advices

“You merely adopted the heat.I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t see 30 celsius until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but a minor discomfort.”
