US President Joe Biden says Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is “listening” to his warnings about the military offensive in Rafah, southern Gaza.
Biden made the remark in an interview on Thursday with ABC News anchor David Muir.
Muir asked Biden what he thinks about Israel going ahead with the operation in Rafah despite the president’s warnings.
The anchor also cited experts who say Israel has likely used weapons from the United States.
Biden said he thinks Netanyahu is listening to him because Israeli troops have not invaded all of Rafah, or entered the city “with full force”.
Regarding ceasefire negotiations with Hamas, Biden said Israel has “agreed to a significant agreement backed by almost the whole Arab world.”
Netanyahu has not clarified his position.
Hamas says it will not agree to the latest proposal, or release hostages, unless Israel commits to a permanent ceasefire.
