By 30 June 2024 it will be possible for all customers with an electricity supplier in the free market to re-enter the protected market. In this way, from 1 July 2024 until 31 March 2027, they will automatically be switched to the gradual protection service (with the possibility, clearly, of returning to the free market at any time). The operator assigned will depend on the place where the meter is located, but this matters little because the contractual conditions will be the same for everyone. And they are quite advantageous, especially for those who have low or average consumption. It is a variable price contract that varies based on the PUN (as do variable contracts on the free market), but the great convenience lies in the fixed price, which was always decided through auctions and which is calculated in a somewhat cumbersome (depends on the number of customers remaining in the protected area at the end of June in each of the areas into which the Italian territory is divided). In any case, it will be the same for everyone and, according to initial estimates, it will be equal to -73€ per year. To give you an idea, currently in the protected sector there is a fixed annual cost of just under €60 and on the free market you can often find much worse. There will also be a sort of spread, the value of which is not yet precisely known but, based on some of the parameters already established, it will most likely be very low, of the order of 1 cent/kWh. In recent weeks many newspapers have also talked about it. https://www.ansa.it/sito/notizie/economia/2024/02/06/arera-73-euroanno-per-luce-su-servizio-a-tutele-graduali_00952124-c978-4df0-affd-2ae10ec1b82d. html https://www.ilpost.it/2024/02/07/fine-mercato-tutelato-risparmi-130-euro/ Among other things, the choice of a variable offer seems to be the better choice compared to a fixed price offer fixed, considering that we are in a phase of strong price reduction (here you can consult them yourself: https://www.mercatoelettrico.org/it/Statistiche/ME/DatiSintesi.aspx). For those wishing to return to the protected area, on the Arera website you can find the operator you need to contact which varies depending on the area you are in (https://www.arera.it/area-operators/ricerca-operators). From what I’ve seen, most people should refer to SEN National Electricity Service, but there are others as well. Since I myself made the switch, I recommend calling the numbers you find on their website (https://www.servizioelettriconazionale.it/) and asking to return to the protected area, after which they will send you an email with the form that you will have to sign and then send it back by post, email or via the web from their website. For other operators, things may be a little different and they may make excuses or offer you alternative proposals that are not actually convenient. I really recommend everyone to take advantage of this advantageous rate, since after the end of June it will no longer be possible to return to protection and take advantage of the gradual protections.
